How I store quilts that I use infrequently
To keep your my quilts in good condition while they are stored for long periods, I :
Do
Do not
- Store in a dark cupboard in a calico bag or pillowcase and refold often to minimise the risk of permanent creases (instructions coming soon on how to make your own calico bag)
- Minimise washing unnecessarily (please read my recommended washing instructions)
- Keep my quilt away from animals, especially insects such as moths
- Keep my quilt out of direct sunlight (sunlight will cause the colours in the fabric to fade quickly)
- Minimise the amount of time that my quilt is under artificial light (artificial light will cause the colours in the fabric to fade quickly)
- Minimise contact with liquids, perspiration, hand cream, suncream etc
How I store quilts that I use regularly
If it is a quilt to be used regularly, I:
- Use it and love it
- Once I have loved it to the end of its useful life, I make more quilts!
- Rotate them in and out of use to help them to last longer
All of my recommendations are based on my experience and preferences
